Energy efficient social housing in Lincolnshire

  • Client : Lincs Rural Housing Association
  • Budget : £1.3m
  • AJA designed a total of 6 bungalows and 20 houses on two sites, Spilsby and Eastville, in rural Lincolnshire. The dwellings were innovative in their design in that they incorporated many energy saving features which the Housing Association were keen for their tenants to take on board. Project architect Craig Beech says that so far the results have been very successful and LRHA are pleased with the innovations.
  • The dwellings are all built of FSE certified timber frames which are filled with insulation in excess of the requirements of the Building Regulations and have low E, argon filled timber windows. The monopitch roofs and orientation of the blocks were crucial because photovoltaic cells are sited on the roofs and some of the houses have a conservatory which acts as a passive solar collector. All the units are fitted with a combi, high efficiency boiler.
