The clients had been living in their 1960's bungalow for some time when they approached the practice about the possibility of creating a master bedroom and en suite within the roofspace.
The new master bedroom is accessed from the existing living/kitchen space via an open tread stair and has french doors which open inwards with a glass rail across.
In a second scheme some years later, AJA designed an extension for the bungalow which added an extra 2 bedrooms and en suite at ground floor level. All the new work uses cedar boarding and glass to complement the existing brick and make the extensions feel lighter.
The completed project is now very different to the original. It sits well within the site, has interesting internal open plan spaces and has lost the 1960's dated look which it originally had. The clients are intending to landscape the courtyard spaces which have been created by the transformation.
