Help with securing and managing conservation grants

  • Client : West Street Methodist church, Swadlincote
  • Budget : £100,000
  • We helped the client successfully applied for a HERS grant from South Derbyshire District Council and undertook external repairs to their buildings in the centre of Swadlincote. These included pointing a faience facade, replacement windows, repointing and replacement brickwork and redecoration. The scheme forms the first part of a major regeneration project for the site and gave the buildings a very necessary visual uplift..

  • Client : PCC of Holy Trinity Kirton
  • Budget : £65,000
  • The PCC were granted English Heritage, Heritage Lottery and local trust funding to carry out vital repair work to this Grade 1 listed church which was suffering from years of neglect. There was severe damp ingress, bulging of the stone parapet and wind erosion of the parapet, stone tracery, pinnacles and gargoyles.
  • Phase 1 undertook works to the tower including making better access, fixing pigeon deterrents, overhaul of the lime pointing and historical analysis of the lost details.
  • Phase 2, for which a further grant application has been made, will tackle the dry and wet rot, the decaying plaster and the failed leadwork. Director in charge, Allan Joyce, who has been overseeing the works, is a member of AABC (Architects Accredited in Building Conservation).
