Allan Joyce Architects are currently working on the conversion of a 17th century stone barn in open countryside near Southwell into a large family home.
Two floors will be inserted into the existing structure creating living and bedroom accommodation, with an extension housing services and a further bedroom and snug.
An interpretation of a historic extension, long demolished, the new wing will be sunk into the hill with south facing glazing to appreciate the spectacular views.
Reducing energy use is a priority in the design so the house will feature generous levels of insulation, natural daylighting, heat recovery ventilation, rainwater harvesting and ground source heat pump space and water heating.
The building will feature on Channel Five's ''Build a New Life in the Country'' next year.
Allan Joyce Architects are halfway through the build. So far the structural frame and remedial works to the walls are complete and the barn finally has a new roof.
The extension wing has now taken shape, built from original sandstone skerry found on site.
Banks of metal conservation rooflights have been installed filling all three storeys with natural light.
The project commenced in November 2008 and is due to be completed in October 2009.
